Winemaker Joe Cafaro has had a full career, with a resume that includes names like Acacia, Keenan and Chappellet, it says a lot about the industry that back in 1986 world renownd winemakers could in fact start their own label and in fact, buy a small vineyard to make an estate wine.

It’s unfortunate that we don’t get to hear that story much any longer, Cathy Corison being the exception.

In some other ways, Cafaro Cellars also feels like a step back in time.  Their initial release included both Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Merlot, both of which continue to this day.

Cafaro is highly allocated (nothing is even for sale on their website currently) which would make it a nice fit in any of our wine clubs.
