Opened by a retired engineer, John Buehler St in the early 1970’s Buehler Vineyards continues to be family owned and operated to this day. Situated in the far eastern hills above St. Helena the estate makes about 25,000 cases of wine per year….about half of which is devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
One thing that Buehler Vineyards does that I like, is that they source a Carneros Chardonnay. I find so often that when I taste wine through Napa Valley that finding a higher acidity white can be difficult-after all, Napa was made famous for it’s full bodied, oak driven Chardonnay. Sourcing from Carneros adds something interesting and unique to a tasting trip through Buehler Vineyards, which also deserves plenty of credit for having their estate Cabernet priced at only $45. For Napa Valley (and frankly, even Washington, Paso Robles or Santa Barbara)….that’s incredible in this age of $60+ Cabernet Sauvignon.
That estate Cabernet would fit in well in our wine club program to be sure.
