Founded only in 1991, Artesa seems to hold a larger influence over winemakers and the wider wine industry in Napa Valley than many people expect given its size and relatively short history.

Originally called Codorniu and focused exclusively on sparkling wine, the winery now owns vineyards in many of the cool climate regions around Napa and Sonoma including Carneros, the Sonoma Coast and others.  Production has also ramped up to close to 100,000 cases of wine per year.

Artesa has gone, largely to a French style of setup which includes a range of wines and price points.  As an example, they have wines in their “Elements” line that retail for around $20, single vineyard offerings for about $50 and finally single vineyard large format bottles that retail for upwards of $200.

Artesa might not be a fit for any of our wine clubs based on their production size, but quality is quite good and their price to quality ratio has continued to be quite high over the years.
