Owned by Tom Farella, Farella Vineyard started as just that, a vineyard.  Tom spent some time while he was growing grapes for others, learning to make wine himself. With 26 acres in Coombsville, it’s a relatively small winery and some of the fruit is still sold to bigger names like Pahlmeyer among others.

Production for Farella Vineyard sits at just above a thousand cases per year. Farella focuses on a few things, but many are farming related.  First, Tom starts by focusing on lowering the level of inputs into the vineyard.  On Farella’s website, he talks about how organic certification often comes with plenty of inputs, that’s something I’ve heard from larger scale farming practices as well. Low levels of input also go into the winemaking section of the operation.  There’s also some care and concern that goes into lowering the wineries carbon footprint.

With estate Malbec and Zinfandel that come with a Napa address, priced in the low $30 range, a perfect fit in any of our red wine clubs and we’ll have a look for an upcoming wine club shipment.
