David Arthur Vineyards was a concept originally from Don Long, who owned a grocery business in Menlo Park (think the San Francisco South Bay, Silicon Valley basically) but who saw the long term potential of Pritchard Hill.  From the 50’s until the 70’s he amassed an almost staggering, 1,000 acres.  It’s the type of thing thoroughly impossible today, without something of kingdom elsewhere in the world.

Vines were planted in the 70’s and David’ daughter Laura came on board in 2007 to help run the business side of the operation.

The shining star so to speak at David Arthur Vineyards is their Elevation 1147, a mountain Cabernet Sauvignon made from the best blocks, as you might expect about 1147 feet above sea level on Pritchard Hill. Tasting fees run about $50 for each person and runs about 90 minutes.  According to Wine Searcher, Elevation 1147 runs about $100 or so in most vintages.  Of course, it’s highly allocated! Also, that makes a perfect fit for what Forbes Magazine has called among their best wine clubs don’t you agree?
