Purchased in the late 990’s by Thomas Baldacci and his family, Baldacci Family Vineyard is located at the southern edges of the Stag’s Leap District.
As you might expect given the location, this is a Cabernet heavy project, with the vast majority of the 20 or so acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, or Cabernet Franc (which seems to be used exclusively as a blending grape here).
One thing I appreciate about the ownership and the property itself is that the folks behind Baldacci produce a range of more affordable wines, in addition to their $75+ estate offerings. A bottling called IV Sons, sits at about $40 as of the 2011 vintage and offers great insight into Napa Valley, without the $100 price point. We’ve long thought that an offering from Baldacci Family Vineyard might fit with one of our wine clubs, even if we haven’t had the opportunity to make that happen yet.
