Rattlesnake Hills AVA
If you were to suggest an AVA name to receive some free advertising, or consumer dollars simply based on the name alone, Rattlesnake Hills would have to be pretty high on your list.
We don’t mean to make it seem that Rattlesnake Hills is simply a marketing ploy because it is one of the top AVA’s within Washington State. Located in the wider Yakima Valley, Rattlesnake is able to achieve full ripeness of Bordeaux varietals despite cool temperatures. The ripeness comes from a combination of direct sunlight and a southern facing exposure which leaves the vines in sunlight for the longest possible time during the warmer summer growing season. In fact, some of the most famous vineyards in Washington State exist in this AVA, led by Andrew Will’s Two Blondes Vineyards (talk about another cool name).
