Definitely thought of as an up and coming AVA in Monterrey County & San Benito Counties in California. This is an AVA most easily classified using its Limestone soils. These soils help vines overcome the cool weather conditions year around to achieve maximum ripeness. Wines are typically thought of as complex and needing time to age and open up before being consumed. In many ways Pinot Noir from Chalone reminds wine enthusiasts of Pinot from the old world, especially Burgundy.
