When wine tasting people often want to know exactly how to taste. The following is a general rule for looking like an experienced taster.

1) Before drinking swirl the wine in your glass and look at the contents. How dark is the wine? Can you see partly through the wine when it is held up to a light source?

2) Smell: Sometimes referred to as the nose of the wine. What flavors and smells can you make out before tasting the wine.

3) Taste: Wines often have two distinct tastes. What do you taste when it first hits your tongue? If keep the wine in your mouth for a moment, can you taste other flavors? When you do swallow the wine (or spit) what do you taste at the end? This is referred to as the finish of the wine.
