Sta. Rita Hills AVA

The AVA itself says that it is uniquely situated to receive the maritime climate of the Pacific Ocean and frankly speaking I have to agree. Located between the towns of Buellton and Lompoc in Santa Barbara County, the Sta Rita Hills AVA receives an innumerate amount of fog coming off the cool Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara. If you wonder why there is more fog in this area than any other coastal area in the world, Santa Barbara marks the end of the longest east-west coastline in the entire world (most coastlines are north-south or something in between).

With a total area of only 100 square miles it is one of the smallest AVA’s in the expansive Central Coast AVA and offers some truly dramatic wines.
