Seiad Valley AVA

Located at the farthest northern reaches of California, touching the California-Oregon border and bounded by Klamath River, this AVA is the perfect example why the state of California and United State Department of Agriculture now have more strict rules in regarding to gaining AVA status. Originally conceived as an AVA with only one active winery, the winery in question has closed due to difficulty growing grapes in the cool climate in Seiad, which is exasperated by the incredibly rocky soil.
