Los Carneros AVA

Located just north of San Pablo Bay (think the furthest northern part of San Francisco Bay) the Carneros AVA is a much cooler growing environment then its more famous northern neighbors of Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Receiving a constant flow of cool air from both the San Pablo Bay as well as the through the Petaluma Gap makes the region perfect to grow cooler weather varietals such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as a wide assortment of sparkling wines. An interesting point about Los Carneros is that it was the first AVA in California to be created based on growing conditions and climate instead of political boundaries.
