Happy Canyon AVA

One of the newest AVA’s anywhere in the country, the vintners of the Happy Canyon region have worked long and hard to gain their own AVA. Located just outside the town of Los Olivos which sits approximately 30 miles northeast of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley, the vintners of Happy Canyon thought it was important to attain their own AVA designation because their growing region is quite warm (as it is throughout the rest of the Santa Ynez Valley) but it does get an extended version of the coastal eddy despite being so far inland which gives the grapes a better opportunity to regain their acidity during cooler time periods. Lastly, the cooler night time temperatures allow the vintners to craft a higher quality of white wine grapes such as Viognier and Roussane.
