Fernao Pires

Fernao Pires is a Portugese white wine grape grown largely in the suburbs of Lisbon where the locals often refer to it as Maria Gomes.

This is a white wine best consumed young (certainly within 5 years) which carries a similar flavor and spice profile to Viognier.

Plantings outside of Portugal have never been significant, but there is a growing attraction to the grape in South Africa.
