Edna Valley AVA

The Edna Valley AVA is located just south of the small central coast town of San Luis Obispo and is part of the larger Central Coast AVA. When morning fog and cool ocean breezes are combined, you have an AVA which has one of the longer growing seasons in the entire state of California. The result of this long growing season and cool climate leads to outstanding Chardonnay and Pinot Noir's being produced. The soil is generally volcanic which also can add an interesting dimension to the wine.

As with much of California, vines were originally tended by Spanish missionaries in and around their Missions and Fort's. Edna Valley is no different which large Missions based in both San Luis Obispo and perhaps the largest land grant Mission in California located seventy miles south in Santa Barbara.
