Do you miss Disco? Staurday Night Fever? In the 1970’s Chenin Blanc was the most popular white wine grape being grown anywhere in the world, with California leading the way. Things changed once Chardonnay took over, but there are still outstanding Chenin Blanc being produced in both France and California.
Great Chenin Blanc carries an incredible balance between length on the finish and the type of acidity which helps to cleanse your palate and help you to enjoy food. Many of these great wines will have a tiny amount of sweetness which helps to balance the naturally high acidity.
The best Chenin Blanc’s are being produced in France (where the grape is probably a native varietal), California and now South Africa is starting to do well with the grape.
