Chalk Hill AVA

The Chalk Hill AVA is part of the wider known and larger Russian River Valley, which itself is in the AVA of Sonoma. Known and named with the volcanic soil which is a white chalky substance which are not chalk as typically thought, but actually are made up of quartz and volcanic ash.

Wines from the Chalk Hill AVA are prized by wine drinkers because the soil creates a difficult environment for the vines to grow thereby growing berries which are smaller and have stronger tastes, while the resulting wine is both elegant but fruit forward.
